Raised in Aruba, my journey has always been guided by a deep connection to nature—whether surfing, diving, on remote expeditions, or practicing permaculture. For me, Panama is the life-changing result of what began as a surf trip from Vancouver Island in an old Ford F-150.

BioCultural Adventures embodies this journey, blending experiences of Panama’s cultural and biological richness with the expertise of local Indigenous leaders, all grounded in professionalism and the trust needed to step out of your comfort zones.

Since I arrived in 2013, I’ve dedicated myself to fostering meaningful connections between people, communities, and the natural world. Immersive experiences rooted in natural heritage and place-based learning, combined with conservation and community-led projects, have become the foundation of my work. It’s been a deeply personal and professional adventure, inspiring others to embrace sustainability and build a profound appreciation for our interconnected world.

Along the way, I met my Panamanian wife and found an unexpected calling—helping to build a rainforest campus, overseeing the building of iconic bamboo structures, and leading innovative programs. This path led to co-founding educational initiatives that merged with Geoversity Foundation in 2019, where we co-developed the Life Changer Leadership Experiences managed by BCA moving into 2025.

Partnering with Mark’s programs for over a decade has been an outstanding experience. As a school principal, I’ve organized field trips in 6 countries, and Mark’s reliability, flexibility, and deep understanding of student needs stand out. His engaging, tailored programs, fair pricing, and unique extras like spearfishing lionfish offer unmatched educational value. His strong local connections create meaningful cultural experiences while supporting conservation and community initiatives, making his programs truly exceptional.

In December 2022, we spent an unforgettable week at Mamoni, guided by Mark. From open-air cabins to river kayaking, reforestation discussions, and hikes, the experience was inspiring. A highlight was the tamale workshop, cutting leaves, preparing, and sharing on a national holiday. We returned in 2024 with family, adding a hike to the Continental Divide and exploring Geoversity’s bamboo construction projects. Mark and his team provided exceptional educational adventures, making every moment memorable and unique.

I sought an alternative to big tour companies for a more immersive, genuine, and well-organized student experience. Mark delivered an incredible and safe week of exploration, education, science, fun, and reflection. He’s a masterful organizer with a natural rapport with students, balancing detailed planning with flexibility to adjust to our interests. The trip was everything we wanted in an educational adventure—immersive, enriching, and unforgettable.
